Los quarks de tercera generación se llaman t/b porque los de segunda se llaman s/c, y la d ya se usó para los de primera u/d. Lo habitual es llamar a los quarks t/b como top/bottom (cima/fondo), nombres usado por Haim Harari en 1975 [1], por analogía a up/down (arriba/abajo) para los quarks u/d. Sin embargo, en enero de 1976, Álvaro de Rújula [2] y Sheldon Lee Glashow [3] usaron los nombres truth/beauty (verdad/belleza). Por ello hoy en día se habla de “mesones bellos” (beautiful mesons) término introducido en 1977 [4].
No sé si algún lector sabrá si los términos truth/beauty tienen un origen anterior a enero de 1976. Yo no lo he encontrado.
